Meet Wanda Carreras, Assistant Program Manager, as she shares her thoughts on being part of Team A4L, life lessons more, and what she does outside of A4L!

What brought you to A4L and how long have you been with the organization?
My love and advocacy for the arts brought me to A4L. Being on the team keeps me inspired and connected to the city and its arts community. I’ve been with the organization for two years and am looking forward to many more!

What is your day-to-day at A4L like?
I assist the management of all A4L programs. My hands are in many fruitful buckets. My days are spent supporting the success of our programming.

Tell us some fun facts about you.
I love staying active. On a sunny day, you might catch me rollerskating around the city. I also teach yoga and am passionate about bringing wellness to diverse communities.

Do you have an artistic or non-artistic accomplishment you’re most proud of?
I’m most proud to be the first college graduate of my family. My parents have always supported me in my dreams and aspirations. This support led me to move to California and earn my Bachelors in Fine Art. As a first-generation Cuban-American woman, it’s empowering to step into opportunities.

What has been a life lesson you’ve learned through the arts?
Trust! The! Process! As an artist myself, I’ve learned the lesson of patience, trust, and consistency. Art teaches us a lot about life itself. Sometimes things are messy and weird but you always end up where you’re supposed to be. It’s also important to find time to play, experiment, and stay curious.

What inspires you about the work A4L does?
A4L provides an opportunity for children to feel encouraged, included, and supported. I’m inspired by the sense of community that our programs bring to families and youth. I recognize the impact that a positive mentor can have one someone’s life. A4L’s work brings people together to connect and find value in self-expression and creativity.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our students, parents, partners and community supporters?

Yes! I host wellness classes and events through my business, TODO Yoga. All are welcomed! Check it out at todoyogastudio.com.
