Meet Marilyn Mendoza, one of A4L’s many behind-the-scenes heroes! For the past five years, Marilyn has managed the All Kids Included (AKI) Saturday program’s Animation classes at Sandrell Rivers Theater, helping create a safe, inclusive, and joy-filled space where children of all abilities can explore the arts. Now, we’re thrilled to announce she’s stepping into a new adventure as part-time Site Manager at our brand new A4L Summer Camp site at Treasure Island Elementary!

With her deep compassion, can-do spirit, and love for helping kids thrive, Marilyn brings so much light and leadership to A4L. In this Q&A, she shares what keeps her inspired, her favorite creative outlets, and why the arts—and A4L—mean so much to her.

What brought you to A4L and how long have you been with the organization?
What initially attracted me to A4L was the opportunity to work with children. Over the past five years, what has kept me here is the supportive staff and the organization’s dedication to helping children grow—not just artistically, but also emotionally and personally.

What is your day-to-day at A4L like?
As a part-time site manager, my role involves frequent follow-ups with both parents and children, as well as ensuring that teaching artists have everything they need for sessions to run smoothly and effectively.

Tell us some fun facts about you.
I love to cook and sing (but not good at it).

Do you have an artistic or non-artistic accomplishment you’re most proud of?
I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in mental health counseling.

What has been a life lesson you’ve learned through the arts?
To be carefree.

What inspires you about the work A4L does?
What inspires me the most is the impact this work has on children. The counselors, site managers, and teaching artists truly make a meaningful difference in their lives. A4L provides a safe and supportive space where children can express themselves freely and confidently.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our students, parents, partners and community supporters?
A4L is an incredible organization that may start as an extracurricular activity for children, but quickly becomes like family. It is truly dedicated to supporting children in every way possible.
