Meet A4L’s Christelle Mondesir!
As a Site Manager of A4L’s Lewis Arts Studio program, Christelle managed daily operations and communications with parents. As a Teaching Artist, she uses her vocal and musical training to help middle school students build confidence. And as a Site Assistant of A4L’s ArtWorks Internship program, Christelle made sure the Music Production co-op stayed on beat.
Her dedication helps A4L give children and youth the chance to create.
What brought you to A4L?
I was drawn to Arts for Learning because I love working with young people and helping them discover their confidence through the arts. As someone who enjoys music and creative expression, I saw A4L as a great opportunity to make a positive impact on my community. I have been with the organization for five years.
What is your day-to-day at A4L like?
My day-to-day at A4L as a Teaching Artist includes supporting A4L’s partnership with After-School All-Stars, where I help create engaging and meaningful experiences for students through music and the arts. I work with middle school students, leading activities that encourage creativity, teamwork, self-expression, and confidence. Whether we’re practicing vocals, playing music games, learning rhythms, or preparing for performances, I enjoy helping students discover their talents and build confidence in themselves. One of the most rewarding parts of my day is seeing students step outside of their comfort zones and realize what they’re capable of achieving.
Tell us some fun facts about you.
I am Haitian American, I love singing, and I am very involved in my church community. I enjoy listening to music, learning new things, and finding creative ways to connect with students through the arts.
Do you have an artistic or non-artistic accomplishment you’re most proud of?
One accomplishment I’m proud of is continuing my education while balancing work and other responsibilities. Artistically, I am proud of using my voice to inspire others through singing and helping students find confidence in their own talents.
What has been a life lesson you’ve learned through the arts?
The arts have taught me that growth takes patience. Not everything comes naturally right away, but with practice, dedication, and confidence, you can improve and achieve more than you thought possible.
What inspires you about the work A4L does?
I am inspired by the way A4L makes arts education accessible to students and creates opportunities for them to express themselves. It’s rewarding to see students discover talents they didn’t know they had.
Do you have an impactful A4L story to share?
One of the most impactful experiences has been watching students who were initially shy become more confident over time. Seeing them participate, share ideas, and perform in front of others reminds me of how powerful the arts can be.
Are you involved in any cool projects outside of A4L that you want to share?
Outside of A4L, I am pursuing my studies in psychology and continue to stay involved in music and ministry through my church. I enjoy opportunities that allow me to serve others.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our students, parents, partners and community supporters?
Thank you for supporting arts education. The arts help students build confidence, creativity, communication skills, and resilience. To our students: keep believing in yourself, be willing to try new things, and never underestimate the value of your unique voice and talents.
