Meet Laura Luna, A4L Program Manager, as she shares her thoughts on A4L, her accomplishments and upcoming projects!
What brought you to A4L and how long have you been with the organization?
I wanted to continue with Arts in Education after being a professional artist and the Head of the Arts Department at a private school for 10 years. In 2004, a friend introduced me to A4L.
What is your day-to-day at A4L like?
My days at A4L include: conversations with teaching artists, site visits, revising projects, answering emails, talking to our partners.
Tell us some fun facts about you.
Avid reader. Extremely curious and intuitive. Motorcycle aficionado. I dance like no one is watching. I love anarchy in fashion. Everyday I challenge myself to be a better person and a better artist. I am a very fast learner, but not in a conventional way. Very stubborn and resilient when my mind is set to something. Love smells and what the scents evoke in me. I walk everyday as a way to meditate. I don’t like small talk. It is a waste of my time.
Do you have an artistic or non-artistic accomplishment you’re most proud of?
I have continued creating in spite of life challenges.
What has been a life lesson you’ve learned through the arts?
To create is an act of freedom. Art is a way of embracing the world and breaking from it.
What inspires you about the work A4L does?
The hope to help new generations to live a more conscious and healthier life based on individual growing and the building of strong communities.
Do you have an impactful A4L story to share?
I have seen old students become new teaching artists and successful professionals.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our students, parents, partners and community supporters?
Be conscious of your life and the life of others. Consciousness leads us to make the right choices. Every step we take has consequences; choose to be the best version of yourself. Good education is the root of society and the base for better communities, neighborhoods, countries and the world.
