What a summer, what a show! This year, with 87 highschool interns in participation from Miami-Dade County, Broward County, and beyond Florida, our ArtWorks Internship Summer Program culminating event had guests clapping, dancing, laughing and enjoying spoken word, art and more.

Dance and Theater interns choreographed their own performances, while Film interns shared cinematography shorts that depicted family, life and a spin on Macbeth. Audience members also listened to original songs created by our Music Production interns and spoken word pieces by Creative Writing interns; enjoyed structural takes on garments and masks by Architecture interns; and viewed movie posters alongside animations created by the Animation interns, as well as original artwork by Visual Arts interns.

This year’s program took place once again at Miami-Dade College Koubek Center, and we’re so grateful to them for allowing our interns to use their campus for filming, recording, learning and building new friendships.

“It’s allowed them [students] to bring in their own inclinations and interests into their thoughts and kind of disrupt some of the boundaries that the [artistic] discipline sets up. I wish I had something like this when I was in high school; just a way of being able to explore all these creative outlets and to meet people from other schools.” – Gabriel Jean-Paul Soomar, ArtWorks Teaching Artist, Harvard University Architecture Masters Student

“My first ArtWorks internship made me really happy because it helped me grow my confidence a lot and I learned leadership skills that will help me in the future. This year…it’s more like the technical aspects of animation which I’m super happy for, so I’m growing in my craft, but also making great friends, and having a good time.” – Rachel, Animation Co-Op Intern

A big thank you to the Jonathan D. Lewis Foundation and The Sacha Fund for supporting this program.
