Animation Gets Real
Job Description:
We seek individuals who are passionate about inclusive education and have a heart for working with children of all abilities. The Animation Gets Real program is designed for students aged 13-22 with autism and related disabilities, providing them with an opportunity to explore animation, filmmaking, music technology, and sound design. Counselors at the Animation Gets Real program provide hands-on support during daily activities and transitions, ensuring that participants feel welcomed, safe, and engaged. The Counselor plays a vital role in modeling positive behavior, assisting with arts-based programming, and communicating effectively with families, teaching artists, and program staff. Ideal candidates are adaptable, empathetic, and eager to help young people express themselves through the arts. This position reports to: Site Manager for the Animation Gets Real Program
Responsibilities
- Assist with snack and/or meal distribution and clean up
- Manage activity/task transitions
- Participate in regular staff meetings to discuss and review best practices, ensure participant engagement, and meet program objectives
- Create a warm and welcoming environment
- Serve as a role model to the participants
- Assist with & confirm daily attendance
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, photo releases, & emergency contact forms
- Assist Teaching Artist in daily tasks and support instruction
- Learn, understand, enforce, and implement all safety guidelines and program procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, being responsible for participants’ safety and knowing their whereabouts at all times
- Ensure the assigned areas are kept clean and organized
- Assist with program supply & equipment organization & storage
- Support in communication with parents about participants’ experiences and progress
- Share concerns, comments, and feedback with site and/or program management
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children
- Experience working with children with disabilities is preferred
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset
- A clear Level II Background Screening
- First Aid and CPR Certification preferred
- Experience in youth development or arts environments is a plus
Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM-4:30 PM; June 9 – June 20, 2025

Compensation:
$18.00/hour
