A4L Afterschool at Laura C. Saunders Elementary School

Job Description:

We are seeking a warm, attentive, and responsible team member who enjoys working with children and helping them explore their creativity. Counselors at Laura C. Saunders Elementary play a key role in creating a safe and structured environment by supporting transitions, reinforcing positive behavior, and assisting with both logistical and instructional tasks. This position involves close collaboration with teaching artists and site leadership, as well as thoughtful communication with families. The ideal candidate is reliable, nurturing, and enjoys being an active part of a mission-driven arts education team. This position reports to: A4L Site Director at Laura C. Saunders Elementary School

Responsibilities

  • Assist with snack and/or meal distribution and clean up
  • Facilitate and oversee homework help and/or literacy support
  • Manage activity/task transitions
  • Plan, lead & oversee daily group games/free choice activities
  • Plan, lead, & execute Cultural Connections sessions
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to discuss and review best practices, ensure participant engagement, and meet program objectives
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment
  • Serve as a role model to the participants
  • Assist with & confirm daily attendance
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, photo releases, & emergency contact forms
  • Assist the Teaching Artist in daily tasks and support instruction
  • Learn, understand, enforce, and implement all safety guidelines and program procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, being responsible for participants’ safety and knowing their whereabouts at all times
  • Ensure the assigned areas are kept clean and organized
  • Assist with program supply & equipment organization & storage
  • Support the communication with parents about participants’ experiences and progress
  • Share concerns, comments, and feedback with site and/or program management

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset
  • A clear Level II Background Screening
  • First Aid and CPR Certification preferred
  • Experience in youth development or arts environments is a plus

Schedule – School Year:

Monday – Friday; needed availability 1:15 PM – 6:00 PM – August 14, 2025 – June 4, 2026

Compensation:

$18.00/hour
