In September, 2013, Arts for Learning expanded its ArtWorks program to serve high school students during the school year. As a collaborative effort with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Honors and Executive Internship Program (HEIP) and Coral Gables Senior High School, the program provides high school students with career experiences in the arts. The school year component launched with Visual Art interns who met two to three times per week, under the direction of A4L Teaching Artist Yanira Collado.

In addition to building the interns’ technical skills, they were each assigned different responsibilities, serving as curator, graphic designer and public relations coordinator.  This coming year, A4L plans to expand the school year internship offerings to include opportunities not only in the visual arts, but also creative writing.
